Hello!
Tick tock. Running out of time to figure out what to get your mom for Mother’s Day? A really cool magazine subscription is always a good option.
By the way, I'm Bruce Cole, Publisher of Edible San Francisco. Welcome to all the new subscribers (24!) this week. Spam sucks, so I'd never opt you into this newsletter automatically. If you'd like to hop off anytime, simply unsubscribe. I appreciate you reading (and sharing) this newsletter.
Let’s eat!
EAT
Heidi Swanson’s Sriracha Tomato Soup
While we’re waiting for Early Girl tomatoes: this recipe from Heidi Swanson’s latest book, Supernatural Simple: Whole Food Vegetarian Recipes for Real Life, is an easy substitute, made all the more simple by grabbing ingredients from your pantry. Find the recipe in the spring issue or online here.
Soup and salad? If that’s your deal, you can’t go wrong with Molly Baz’s Cae Sal, aka the Greatest Salad of All Time (GSOAT).
DRINK
Hidden Society Sangiovese
Thanks to a collaboration with Alex Pomerantz’s (Subject to Change Wine Co.) Budbreak Project, a resource-sharing initiative that helps aspiring winemakers get their foot in the door, Brendon Pineda and Ariana Olivares are celebrating their first vintage as winemakers with the Hidden Society Sangiovese.
The Budbreak Project partners with aspiring winemakers that don’t have access to the resources typically available to established vintners, including the financial backing to purchase sustainably farmed fruit, use of winemaking facilities, technical knowledge, and connections to branding, marketing resources, and sales platforms.
Omar Mamoon talks to Brendon and Ariana in the latest issue about how their first vintage came together.

THINK
Have You Seen Seaspiracy Yet? Mark Bittman, in his latest newsletter notes: “As most of you know, I strongly believe in part-time veganism, but given that billions of people around the world rely on animal products as a major, if not primary, protein source, my feeling is that militant, proselytizing veganism, as represented by both Cowspiracy and Seaspiracy is a privileged and even racist stance. Bittman also includes a lengthy rebuttal from Alan Lovewell, founder and CEO of Real Good Fish. The Bittman Project

ONE MORE THING
If you’ve ever wondered just how we manage to put this newsletter together:
It’s the first of the month and that means a new dinner jam playlist! This month’s Spotify list starts off with a classic from Erykah Badu, pops into a groove by South African jazz singer Letta Mbulu, and slides into a long mellow jam with appearances by Femi Kuti, A Tribe Called Quest, Big Muff, Telex and the instantly recognizable Kid Francescoli hit, Moon (and it went like). But stick around for the last track because it’s dynamite.
That’s all for this week.
Thanks for subscribing to Eat. Drink. Think. This post is public, so feel free to share it. Actually, we’d be eternally thankful if you shared it with everyone you know 😉
We’re outta here. Be well and take care,
–Bruce
