My wife snagged me a copy of Selected Poems by William Carlos Williams from a free library in our hood while on a dog walk. Reading through the poems before dinner: Pastoral (sparrows quarreling), the red you know what, Portrait of a Lady (“Your knees are a southern breeze”), The Botticellian Trees, and then on page 55:

This Is Just To Say

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and cold.


#Protip: if you keep your plums in the icebox they don’t ripen to mush and taste really delicious.
