#50 | Plums In The Icebox

🍔 Cheeburger Smashburger

My wife snagged me a copy of Selected Poems by William Carlos Williams from a free library in our hood while on a dog walk. Reading through the poems before dinner: Pastoral (sparrows quarreling), the red you know what, Portrait of a Lady (“Your knees are a southern breeze”), The Botticellian Trees, and then on page 55:

This Is Just To Say

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for
breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and cold.

#Protip: if you keep your plums in the icebox they don’t ripen to mush and taste really delicious.

Let’s eat!

We’ve been on a steady purslane diet for the past month, and shell beans are just coming into season now, so we’re putting this salad back into our dinner rotation. Peeling the cherry tomatoes takes just a couple of minutes and makes all the difference as they soak up the vinaigrette without giving up their juices. Edible SF
