I use a rock from the sea side to crush garlic on cutting board, its an egg shaped granite rock.

Wow! That is so cool. We may have to go find a rock now!

Potato chips = favorite road food/guilty pleasure. Did not know what an Air Fryer was until a week ago.

Melody Saradpon | Edible SF's avatar

The question is, where would we even put an air fryer? We already have 2 food processors!

Exactly.

Someone told me an air fryer is basically just a convection oven. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Oh gawd. My sister-in-law just sent me one this week! Air Fryers and Instapots. Just can't. (Yet?)

Haven't pulled the trigger on an Instapot either. And we do have two pressure cookers in the garage collecting dust! To be honest, don't even know what an Air Fryer does?

*deep inhale* I don’t like pasta but go crazy over noodles, especially vermicelli bowls.

Asian style noodle dishes seem much more savory, right? We've been stir frying noodle dishes (lo mein) lately, but it's not going well. Think we've been adding to many ingredients and it ends up a big blob in the wok.

Expand full comment
ChasingQuixote's avatar

Wait, wut? Are you starting with really dry, cold noodles?

Expand full comment
Melody Saradpon | Edible SF's avatar

No we're adding the whole package of noodles, because that's what the recipe says, which significantly lowers the heat in the wok and everything begins to steam. Of course we know better than to fill a wok with too much stuff but sometimes you get sidetracked when following a recipe you're not familiar with.

Our favorite foood movie is Chocolat starring Juliette Binoche. Seen it at least 50 times!

Ours is Babette's Feast, and we used to try and watch it every Thanksgiving but haven't managed in the past few years.

My fridge is about 85% condiments.

I eat the fancy tuna in glass jars that cost like $9 each.

Guilty pleasures while living abroad were Peter Pan peanut butter (the only brand available, worse than Skippy/Jif) and Subway sandwiches I’d eat in bed while homesick.

We like tuna with Sriracha mayo. Then again, we like anything with Sriracha!

SUPER CONFESSION: I like turkey hot dogs and I eat them cold. It's a habit I picked up while living in Mexico. And it's stuck -- for over 10 years.

Melody Saradpon | Edible SF's avatar

Oh my! Do you at least dip them in ketchup?

Expand full comment
ChasingQuixote's avatar

Nope. Just straight up. I love the texture! Plus the salt. Reminds me of Gyoniku sausage -- also something I enjoy! But, probably shouldn't admit.

I have never ever owned a microwave.

It’s either Like Water for Chocolate, or Chocolat, like James below, with Julie and Julia nestled in there too.

We're a microwave-free household too. Never saw the need! But, also, there have been fights in my family over this.

Ours gets used for reheating meals. Or if we're feeling fancy, we paint shiso leaves with olive oil and put them between two layers of plastic wrap and then microwave them until crisp. Then again, we do that about 3-4 times a year so...

Binge-watched every single episode/season of Great British Menus since I found it on Amazon Prime. Bought and returned the silly Instant Pot contraption.

Have yet to watch Great British Menus but have seen some of the British Baking show (?) which was very entertaining. And yeah, don't know how we'd use an Instapot either 🤔

It’s very different...but oddly, Pru Leith is a judge on both shows. More like the James Beard awards as a British reality show. And yes, you can actually see the emergence of modern British cooking over the years.

I ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches every day of my school career (rare exceptions: when school lunch was canned ravioli or turkey fricasée.)

Totally, such a familiar comfort in those pb&j sandwiches! When we got to college we upgraded to JIF on Homepride wheat bread, a slice of American cheese and Hellman's mayo.
